In this episode of our Placed Learners Podcast, we speak with Ravi Kumar, a student of the Jobaaj Learnings’ Data Analytics Program. Coming from a commerce background, Ravi shares how he discovered the world of data analytics, why he chose to switch paths, and how he secured his first job in the analytics field. This conversation offers insight and inspiration to anyone wondering if they can make the transition into the data world—regardless of their educational background.

Podcaster:
So, Ravi, how are you?

Ravi:
I am fine, sir. How about you?

Podcaster:
I'm good too. So, Ravi, my name is Harshit, and I’ manage the digital marketing team at the Jobaaj Group. Thank you so much for getting on this call. Today, I just want to take some quick feedback from you about how Jobaaj Learnings has helped you in finding your dream job. Let’s begin with your background—can you tell us where you're from and what you’ve studied?

Ravi:
Okay, sir. I’m Ravi Kumar from Hyderabad. I completed my B.Com degree in 2023 with a GPA of 8.256. Alongside my graduation, I also worked part-time with Anti Mart and Patterns as a service provider for about two years.

Podcaster:
Nice. So how did you first come to know about Jobaaj Learnings?

Ravi:
After completing my B.Com, I joined an apprenticeship program called "Up to the Indian Entrepreneur." After about six months there, I saw a post on Instagram about Jobaaj Learnings. I attended one of the workshops, and after attending, I realized this program could be really beneficial for me. So, I decided to join the Data Analytics course in June.

Podcaster:
Alright. So before joining the course, did you have any idea that you wanted to enter the field of data analytics?

Ravi:
No sir, I didn’t know much about it.

Podcaster:
Then how did you end up pursuing this domain?

Ravi:
Actually, my relatives suggested I look into data analytics. During my apprenticeship, I wasn't getting much learning or growth. Then I attended a workshop by Rakshit sir, and that really helped me understand the opportunities in this field.

Podcaster:
That’s great to hear. Now, if we talk about data analytics as a subject or career path—do you think someone from any educational background like BA, BBA, B.Com, or even mechanical engineering can get into this field? Is it that easy?

Ravi:
Yes sir, data analytics is a moderate-level field. Anyone from any background can enter if they have proper guidance. It’s not limited to technical backgrounds. With the right mentor, anyone can learn and grow in this domain.

Podcaster:
That’s a very helpful insight. A lot of viewers will be watching this and wondering if they can take the leap—so it’s good to know. Now tell us, where did you get placed, and when was your joining?

Ravi:
I recently got placed in a recovery company as an MIS Executive. I found this job on my own through the WorkIndia platform and joined in January. It’s only been a few days since I started.

Podcaster:
Sounds good. Now coming back to your learning experience—how was your overall journey with Jobaaj Learnings and your mentor?

Ravi:
It was really good. I loved the modules and the entire journey over six to seven months. It was very beneficial and helped shape my career. The mentor was very supportive throughout.

Podcaster:
If I ask you to rate Jobaaj Learnings on a scale of 1 to 10—based on the quality of education, mentorship, and course content—what would your rating be?

Ravi:
For the modules and mentorship, I would give a rating of 9 out of 10.

Podcaster:
That’s great to hear, Ravi. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience. We wish you all the best in your new role. Take care!

Ravi:
Thank you, sir.

General Interview Questions Asked to Ravi during his selection process

What tools and technologies are you familiar with?

Sample A:
I am proficient in MS Excel, especially using formulas like VLOOKUP, IF, COUNTIFS, and Pivot Tables. I’ve also learned SQL for querying data and Power BI for creating dashboards. I’ve worked on small projects using these tools, like sales tracking dashboards and customer reports.

Can you explain a project you worked on during your training?

Sample A:
Sure. One project I worked on was a Sales Analysis Dashboard using Excel and Power BI. I used raw data to clean and structure the dataset in Excel, calculated KPIs like total sales, top products, and region-wise performance, and visualized them in Power BI. This helped me understand data cleaning, transformation, and visualization in a real-world context.

What is the difference between COUNTIFS and SUMIFS in Excel?

Sample A:
COUNTIFS is used to count the number of cells that meet multiple criteria, while SUMIFS is used to sum values based on multiple conditions. For example, COUNTIFS can count how many sales happened in a specific region and month, while SUMIFS can calculate the total sales amount under those same conditions.

How do you handle missing or incorrect data in a dataset?

Sample A:
First, I identify the missing values using filters or conditional formatting. Then I check the impact—if it’s a small percentage, I may remove those rows. Otherwise, I may use techniques like imputation using the mode or average, depending on the data type. For incorrect entries, I cross-verify with the original source and use Excel formulas or SQL updates to fix them.

Why should we hire you for this data analyst/MIS role?

Sample A:
I bring a combination of business understanding from my B.Com degree and technical skills from my data analytics training. I am hardworking, eager to learn, and have already worked in real-world environments during my part-time jobs. I’ve taken initiative to upskill myself and am confident I can add value to your data and reporting processes from day one.
