Podcaster:
We are back with another lovely placement podcast. Today, we have with us Mr. Aayush. Hi Aayush, how are you?
Aayush:
Yeah, I'm totally fine. How are you?
Podcaster:
I'm fine as well. So, you've recently received not one, but two job offers from our end. So, please tell us about yourself, Aayush.
Aayush:
Uh, so okay, let me start. My name is Aayush, and I'm from Jabalpur. I hold multiple degrees, and I’m also a half Chartered Accountant (CA Inter qualified), a business analyst, and currently, I’ve also been hired as a management consultant. That's a brief overview of my background.
Podcaster:
Okay, very concise, but yes, it's your background. So, how did you come to know about Jobaaj?
Aayush:
So, I was exploring career opportunities in management consulting. I came to know about the workshops held by Jobaaj Learning, and I first got introduced to Shivam Sir. After attending the workshop, I checked out the roles and potential career paths in management consulting. I continued exploring, attended more workshops, and eventually joined Jobaaj. And now, here I am, with two job offers.
Podcaster:
Lovely! So your qualification, as of now, is a BBA, right?
Aayush:
Yes, that’s correct.
Podcaster:
So as a BBA graduate, what do you understand about management consulting? You know, earlier, before the course, you might have had a certain idea, but now that you’ve completed it, how do you view management consulting? Our audience might think it's all about big paychecks and fancy offices, but there’s so much more to it.
Aayush:
Management consulting is about helping businesses make real, impactful decisions. It's not just sitting at a desk doing paperwork. It requires analytical skills, decision-making abilities, leadership skills, and more. The consultant is responsible for making decisions that affect a business's future, and those decisions have real consequences on people's lives. It's a job where you bring tangible impacts to businesses and solve critical problems. Management consulting is as important as fields like Chartered Accountancy, as businesses often need consultants to help them overcome challenges and take their operations to the next level.
Podcaster:
So, would you say that a management consultant is someone who solves business problems and helps take the business to the next level?
Aayush:
Exactly, that’s spot on.
Podcaster:
Fantastic! Now, can you tell us about your experience with Jobaaj? How was the learning process and the assignment work?
Aayush:
When I first saw the assignments, I was a bit confused. The case study approach was new to me, and I wasn’t sure how to approach things like scoping and recommendations. But, over time, I started to build a critical mindset. The assignments were instrumental in shaping my thought process and developing my approach to consulting. I began using the frameworks we were taught in the course, and I realized how important they are in practical scenarios.
Podcaster:
So, you think these assignments helped you during the interview process?
Aayush:
Definitely. The assignments taught me how to approach real-life scenarios and think like a consultant. They weren’t just theoretical; they were practical and applicable in interviews and even in my personal life. Once you complete the assignments, you know how to analyze and resolve situations from a consultant’s perspective. These assignments helped me gain the right mindset and approach for real-world problems.
Podcaster:
Great! So after completing the assignments, what was the placement process like?
Aayush:
The placement process involved optimizing my CV and LinkedIn profile, which was a key part of the journey. Once that was done, the placement coordinator aligned interviews with various companies. I gave interviews, received feedback, and kept learning from each experience. It was all about presenting myself and honing my skills for the final placement.
Podcaster:
How long did the entire process take for you?
Aayush:
It took me about four to five months to complete the course and placement process. I didn’t have to wait long at any stage. The process was quite smooth for me, especially because I wasn’t working professionally at the time.
Podcaster:
Excellent! Now, you’ve landed two job offers. One from the Android group as a Manager of Strategy and Alliance with a package of 4.2 LPA, and then a second one from Arcadis Consulting as a Graduate PPF Consultant with a package of 8 LPA. How does that feel?
Aayush:
It feels amazing! I am very grateful for these opportunities. Arcadis offered me 9.2 LPA with the bonus, which is fantastic for a fresher. The Android offer was also decent for a BBA graduate, but Arcadis was a confirmation of my growth and skills. The salary boost definitely gave me a lot of confidence.
Podcaster:
That’s incredible! For a BBA fresher to land a package like that—9.2 LPA—is really impressive. It's even higher than what MBA graduates are getting in some cases.
Aayush:
Yes, exactly! It’s all about the skills you develop during the course. I did over 200 case studies, which helped me understand the consulting mindset and approach. Those case studies, along with the interviews, helped me practice and improve my skills. So, it’s not just about the degree; it’s about how you present yourself and your capabilities.
Podcaster:
So, what was the reaction like from your family when they heard about your success?
Aayush:
My family’s reactions were mixed. My dad was quite calm, but my mom was thrilled and excited. She always believed in me and supported me throughout the journey. My brother, on the other hand, just saw me as his ATM!
Podcaster:
Haha, that’s a great way to put it! Fathers are always proud, but they show it in their own way. Now, for the final question—what advice would you give to people who are in your shoes, fresh out of college or postgrad, but struggling to land a good job?
Aayush:
The key is clarity and self-belief. Know where you want to take your career—whether it’s project management, investment banking, or consulting. Once you’re clear, go for practical learning opportunities, like Jobaaj, which focuses on real-world experience. Develop your skills, take feedback positively, and never be afraid of rejection—it’s just a lesson in itself. If you focus on your skills, your degree won’t matter that much.
