Hello everyone! Today we have another successful placement with us. Congratulations on an excellent placement. So, how are you?
Ansh
I'm all good, sir, and thank you for your wishes!
Podcaster
Yeah, excellent! So, what is your background? You know, for people who don’t really know you. Give us a brief introduction of yourself.
Ansh
Yeah, so my name is Ansh, and I’m from Pune. I recently graduated from BMCC college where I pursued a BBA degree specializing in marketing. As a marketing student, I was excited about the digital marketing domain. After college, I struggled with finding a job. Most roles I was getting were sales-related, which didn’t excite me much. However, digital marketing was something I was truly passionate about. So, I worked as a market research executive at QLB Marketing Insights, but I quickly realized that this wasn’t the right fit for me. I then decided to make a change and pursue the career I truly wanted. I came across Jobbaj Learnings, which offered free workshops, and in August, I attended a session by Harshit Sir on Performance Marketing. This workshop really caught my attention and gave me the insights I needed. After that, I got a one-on-one call from Jobbaj Learnings, and we discussed my career path. That’s when I decided to take the next step.
Podcaster
That’s great! So, what is the role that you’re stepping into now? How is it different from your previous one?
Ansh
The role I’m in now is in digital marketing, which is a completely different field from my previous job as a market research executive. In market research, I was involved in gathering data from various sources and working on projects in industries like cement and transportation. However, in digital marketing, it’s more about hands-on work with e-commerce businesses, driving performance through various strategies like Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and SEO. I’ve also joined a company that provides six months of training and development, after which I’ll transition into real-time projects.
Podcaster
That's fantastic! Now, sometimes we see that our degrees don’t always land us in the roles we desire. You mentioned that after completing your BBA, you got mostly sales roles and had to work as a market research executive. What do you think is the reason why we can’t land the jobs that our degrees prepare us for, even though you have a degree in marketing?
Ansh
This is a great question, and I’ve been thinking about it too. I graduated from BMCC Pune, which is a great college with good placements and an excellent education system. But after completing my BBA, I realized that I didn’t have the practical, technical skills that companies were looking for. While my soft skills like communication, interpersonal skills, and presentation abilities were solid, I lacked the hands-on experience and technical knowledge that is often needed for roles in digital marketing. During my college, we learned the basics of marketing, but when I started job hunting, I faced difficulties because I didn’t have the specific skills required for marketing roles like digital marketing, SEO, or content strategy. I realized that having a degree wasn’t enough unless I had the right skill set to match the industry needs.
Podcaster
So, what kind of skills are we talking about here? What skills did you develop with Jobbaj Learnings that were missing in your college curriculum?
Ansh
College did a good job in developing my soft skills and interpersonal abilities, but there was a gap in technical skills, especially in digital marketing. I had done a basic digital marketing course in college, but that didn’t fully prepare me for the real-world job market. With Jobbaj Learnings, I gained practical experience in digital marketing tools and strategies, such as Google Ads, SEO, and content creation. The full-stack digital marketing course really helped me understand how to apply these concepts to real-time projects. These technical skills made me more confident in my ability to deliver results and proved essential in landing my current role.

That’s really insightful. Now, what do you think are the three most important skills students need to focus on today to get a job in digital marketing?
Ansh
Digital marketing is a vast field, so it really depends on what excites you. For instance, if you enjoy creating content and graphics, content creation might be the right fit for you. If you love working with numbers, Google Analytics and Google Search Console are essential tools. For others, SEO, paid advertising, and social media management are key areas to explore. The most important thing is to get your concepts clear and then explore which part of digital marketing excites you the most. Once you know your area of interest, you can deep dive into learning those skills and start applying them.

That’s great advice. Now, let’s talk about your family. Parents are often concerned about us and our careers. How did your parents react when they found out that you finally got the job you wanted?
Ansh
Initially, when I was working as a market research executive, my parents were happy that I had a job, but I wasn’t truly satisfied. Deep down, I knew I wanted to do something else. When I decided to transition into digital marketing, my parents supported me. They encouraged me to pursue what I was passionate about. The job hunting process was tough, and I faced a lot of rejections because I lacked experience. But I kept at it, and eventually, I started getting multiple calls a day for interviews. My LinkedIn profile and resume were well-optimized, and once I gained confidence in my skills, I cracked the interview and got the job I wanted. My family was really happy and proud of me when I finally landed this job.
Podcaster
That’s really inspiring, Ansh. It’s not easy to stay focused through all the struggles and rejections. Now, to wrap up, what advice would you give to fellow students who are trying to get into digital marketing but don’t know where to start or what mistakes to avoid?
Ansh
My final message would be ..............

How do you prioritize tasks when working on multiple digital marketing campaigns at the same time?
Sample Answer: I prioritize tasks based on the campaign's objectives and timelines. First, I assess the most critical elements such as budget allocation, ad copywriting, and targeting strategies. I also stay flexible to address any immediate issues, like optimizing underperforming campaigns, while continuing to move forward with others.
What is SEO, and why is it crucial for digital marketing?
Sample Answer: SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the process of optimizing a website to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs). My approach was to break down the tool’s features step by step and apply them in real-time scenarios.
